This post may seem a little surprising to those who know me well. I’ll just spit it out, I hate cardamom. I’m not one to hate any specific kind of food, or a spice to be more specific, but cardamom? Oh no. There’s something about the taste that just makes me unhappy. And I know it seems simple, if you don’t like it.. then don’t eat it.
Sure, except it’s in EVERYTHING. Cardamom is used in almost every Arabic recipe at home. It’s almost like a challenge I put myself to before eating any meal, spot and destroy the cardamom! BUT.. it wasn’t until I tried these cakes that I grew somewhat more accepting of it (it even hurts to say it). If you’re not a fan of cardamom yourself (first of all hi, can we be friends?), then don’t worry. It doesn’t have an overpowering taste at all, there’s just a kick that it adds to the cakes that makes it something you just have to add. The combination of lemon and cardamom just goes so well together, you’ll definitely love it.
